Hi! My name is Allison Berg Karasik. I've been a student at Bones Jones Music since May 2026 and I'm excited to tell you about my guitar journey as this month's featured student.

I was looking for a group guitar lesson experience. I liked the idea that a group would be more social than private lessons. I knew I would learn from others in the group just as much as I would learn from the instructor.

And I was right!

Billy is great about helping each student figure out what will help them improve. For example, right now I'm focusing on switching between my open chords faster and working on my pinkie strength.

I keep coming back to Bones Jones Music because I really enjoy it. I find that if I'm paying each month for the weekly class, it keeps me practicing. Plus if I miss a lesson, the make-up policy is generous.

I also really like that Billy teaches songs that I know with classic opening riffs. Our class recently learned "Daytripper" by the Beatles. We just started John Melloncamp's "Pink Houses." That song is one of my favorites and it makes all the difference to work on such familiar and beloved songs.

If you have always wanted to play guitar, this is a great place to start. You don't have to be intimidated. I never even touched a guitar until I was 54 years old! The hardest part for me was showing up for the first lesson. I let the feeling of imposter syndrome talk me out of it for a long time. But once as soon as I came to the first intro lesson, I knew I should have done it sooner.

Don't let imposter syndrome talk YOU out of giving guitar lessons a try.
